The Gospel and Everyday Parenting

Starting this blog has been scary. I feel like I am not qualified to write these posts. But I feel like I am learning soooooo much just by studying the material for each post. It is making me a better person and a better mom. I can only hope that it is helping others out there as well.

How do you integrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ into your everyday, run of the mill, pick up your mess or I'm going to lose my mind, parenting? I am a hot mess kind of mom, so trying to stay in tune with the spirit and convey that in my parenting is HARD!

Here is a small list of things that have helped me as I try to make this part of our lives.

1. I start my day with the scriptures.

  • I try and set my alarm for about an hour before my kids wake up. This gives me some time to be a human being instead of running around in a panic trying to get everyone up and off to school. Having some time to myself, to read my scriptures and get ready helps me set the tone for the day.

2. I say morning prayers with my children. Every day. (At at least most days.)

  • Sometimes this happens in the car on the way to school, but I am trying to make sure that my children start their day with the Lord as well.
3. I try to teach my children using gospel principles. Key word- TRY!

  • This is a toughy and I could use some tips from y'all here!
  • We tell gospel stories throughout the day to explain things
  • And that's all she wrote
4. We listen to primary songs (most of the time) in the car. [Sometimes we just need a good jam sesh to Shake it Off by T-Swift]

  • Or we listen to a Christian Pandora station
  • We are generally a pretty musical family. We like to have music on constantly.

5. We do Family Home Evening once a week and often have our kids teach the lesson *with help*

6. We try to read scriptures with them daily. This is a struggle, but we're trying!!!

So far we are feeling more connected to each other and to the Lord. We will call this a win.

I personally am excited to see how this positively effects our home as we continue and do even better!!
